HISTORY OF THE NAME In 2014, I was in Dallas, Texas at Project Gideon led by Bishop T.D. Jakes. The teachings were lifechanging and engaging. I remember toward the end of the last session we were to attend…we were scheduled to do something else on the itinerary…but the session was so anointed…the HOLY SPIRIT fell on us and further changed and charged the atmosphere. The atmosphere was so thick, it seemed like there was an oily mist in the air. THE LORD was in the place. Bishop Jakes continued to teach, and I began to receive messages in the spirit. that “it is happening”. The session ended, and I went to lunch with my aunt and uncle. I still felt like I was floating. I was walking…but the ground felt different. For the rest of my time in Dallas, I kept hearing the word “generation”. When I got back to Cleveland, I moved to change the name of the church from Tree of Life COGIC to Generation Church.
WHY THE CHANGE?
As the years have gone by, I have come to understand that GOD was calling for there to be “a place” …a center of growth and “generation” in the community. He is calling us away from the understanding that the “church” is the building, the place of worship, the four walls. He is actively calling us to realize that WE…the people…are the “church”, and ministry is in the gifts that HE has given us to be exercised everywhere we go. The name Generation Church has served us well. I believe that the season of “Generation Church” has come to a close, and GOD is transitioning us into a new season.
GOD is calling for us to be THE GENERATION CENTER, a place that meet and worship, and fellowship. A center in the community that we the people and the ministries that GOD has crafted us for…will flow out.
